Snowpocalypse Day...Whatever

The boys were home from school again today.  We were able to make it out of the house though which was a welcomed remedy for our cabin fever.

The roads near our house were still a bit treacherous but once we made it to pavement it was just fine.

First on the list of errands...Colin's dentist appointment.  Seth wasn't scheduled until late March but I had a feeling there would be a lot of people rescheduling after another 10 inches of snow fell in some places yesterday.  I was right and Seth was able to get in too.  Both boys now have sparkling clean teeth and no cavities!  (I took a picture of Seth too but somehow it didn't get saved on my phone).

Look at that huge foot!  I promise the shoes fit his feet, it's just a weird angle I guess.
Next item on the agenda was a quick stop to the grocery store to replenish our hot chocolate supply.  The boys remembered back before Christmas when I promised them hot chocolate when it snowed.  And it stuck. We've done it every snowy day since.  And as you can tell, there have been several.  We're stocked up now and when we came out of the grocery store you'll never guess what was falling from the sky....SNOW!!

Before we headed home, we burned off some energy at the Play Place.  Coffee for me and general mayhem for the boys.

Dancing with joy that we're out of the house!
Once home, I worked at clearing off our driveway yet again (which makes it sound like I'VE done it over and over again.  The truth is that this is my first time. But the driveway itself has been cleared off numerous times) and in the process, constructed a tiny little sledding hill on the corner of our very flat front yard.  With the help of an empty dog food bag, the boys slid down "the mountain" for the rest of the morning.

No word yet on whether or not school is cancelled tomorrow...I likely just jinxed it.  Seth says that if you want a snow day you have to wear your pj's backwards, turn around five times before you get in bed, and flush ice cubes down the toilet.  I'm not sure what you have to do if you're hoping for a school day.  Whatever it is I'm willing to give it a try.

Snowpocalypse Day Two

Snow day number two is in the books.

I asked Colin if playing outside today was better than yesterday.  Although muffled by the scarf around his face I heard him say, "way better!"

I stole the idea to make snow ice-cream from Amber.  Thanks Amber...you made me a hero today!

Snowpocalypse Day One

We've survived day one of what the news has called a "two phase winter event".  We have over a foot of snow so far.  As was likely the case with most families with small children...the bundling up took twice as long as the actual time spent playing outside today.

Both boys were excited to get out there but for Colin, the reality was not quite as fun as he had imagined it would be.  He made several attempts but always ended up in tears and telling us "its just awful".

Seth worked hard today helping Daddy shovel driveways.  He was rewarded handsomely with some chocolate chip cookies baked by our neighbor.  Colin and Mommy stayed toasty warm inside and put ourselves in charge of the drying station.

School has already been cancelled for tomorrow.  I'm resting up for several more rounds of "but I really want to play in the snow and I promise I won't cry this time."

Snowpocalypse

We're anticipating the worst winter storm in two years to arrive sometime tomorrow morning.  School has already been cancelled without a drop of snow hitting the ground.

I stocked up on milk, eggs, bread, etc.  I've never been a "stock up" kind of girl, but I had to go to Costco anyway this week so if need be we have plenty of tomato sauce, kleenex, and bath gel to get us through.

And this pile of wood? This is how we avoid going outside tomorrow if at all possible.  There's more in the basement staying nice and dry.

It ain't pretty but it will get the job done.

This should be interesting.  You local folks stay safe and warm.  We'll be cuddled around this fireplace if anyone needs us.

Super Bowl 2013

Super Bowl Sunday we could be found snuggled up at home with my sister and make-your-own nachos.

As you know if you've spent much time here, Seth loves sports.  Most people watch the Super Bowl to see all the spectacle...music, ceremonies, commercials, etc.  Every year Seth says the same thing, "When are they going to start playing football?"  This year was no different.  He could have done without all the pomp and circumstance but once the game actually started he kept his eyes peeled for spectacular plays.

Here's a quick look back at previous years...notice the placement of the TV tray.

John was trying to teach Colin the art of relaxing and letting your food settle.  He lasted about 15 seconds before he was off to the next thing.

This one's not much into sports.  He loved eating and goofing around though.  Here he is in Kelly's shoes.

Happy Birthday Aunt Kelly

My sister had a birthday recently.  We were able to take her out for lunch on Saturday and then we all went to Seth's basketball game.

Happy Birthday Aunt Kelly!

Seth's card thanked Kelly for letting them come to her house and that he hoped she had a good birthday.

Colin's card said that he like horses, he liked zebras, and he liked Aunt Kelly (that's a high honor in Colin world...to be placed right up there with horses and zebras!)
Here's a look back to last year.

Christmas...Again

My parents were here in January so we were able to celebrate Christmas with them.

Reading The Night Before Christmas...a Robinson family tradition

Colin got the movie Black Beauty for Christmas.  So...naturally a family movie night followed.
My parents were here for two weeks and we loved having them here.  They were the first guests in our newly finished basement which includes a guest room.  One of these days I'll take some pictures and show you the progress.

Good Deeds

I'm going to attempt to catch things up on ye 'ol blog here.  We had a busy January with delayed holidays and then weeks of sickness (just like everyone else).  Our days are back to normal and other than some lingering coughs, we all feel better too.

Now on with our show.

We had some winter weather right around New Year's Day.  We were all home and decided to spread some holiday cheer around our "neighborhood", such as it is.  We bundled up and shoveled a few driveways and front porches.

I thought Colin looked so cute...like a kid in a Christmas movie.
