If I Tweeted

I just spent 20 minutes discussing which weapon is better to use when fending off a boa constrictor.  Colin thought sword.  I thought gun.  Seth thought light saber.  #motherofboys.

Lullaby Playlist - Round Three

Since the boys have their own rooms now, Colin has found bedtime a little harder to do all on his own.  We've figured out a few tricks to help and he has provided some suggestions as well.  One suggestion was a new lullaby CD.  I put together a mix of dreamy tunes and burn it onto a CD.  I've made two previous mixes.  One before the boys came home from Ethiopia and another one a couple of years ago.

Here's the 2015 Edition.

1.  Audrey Assad - Ought To Be
I'm a big fan of this singer/songwriter.  I think her writing is thoughtful and smart.

2.  A Life That's Good -  Lennon and Maisy
This is the first song I learned to play on the guitar and I played it a lot!  Colin knows it well.

3.  Hiding Place - Steven Curtis Chapman
If you like hymns and have a youthful sentimentality for Steven Curtis Chapman like I do...I recommend this entire album (Deep Roots).  I know it's sponsored by Cracker Barrel, which may cause some of us to shutter a bit.  Try to look past it.

4.  You Are Good - Nichole Nordeman with Erin O'Donell

5.  Sunshine On My Shoulder - John Denver
This is another song I played a lot while learning to play guitar.  Say what you will about John Denver but he knows how to sing a peaceful song.

6.  Far Away Places - Willie Nelson with Sheryl Crow

7.  Rainbow Connection - Trespassers William
I put this song on a lullaby CD I made for Ellis and loved it so much I put it on this list.  I can't help picturing Kermit the frog every time I hear this song.  I didn't include the Kermit version on the boys' CD but I'll put it here for your enjoyment.

8.  A Time For Love - Jamie Cullum

9.  Prairie Lullaby - Diana Krall
I can't find a good video for this song.  John and I saw her in concert last May and she ended with this song.  She said this was the only song she sings that her twin boys will listen to.  Fair warning...if you click on the following link (mom)...the cover of the album is a bit risque.  It's from the Glad Rag Doll album.

10.  One Voice - Wailin' Jennys

11.  Smile - Lyle Lovett

12. 'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus - Katy Kinard
I came across this album while downloading new music yesterday.  I was particularly frazzled from parenting two active (and sometimes mouthy) boys.  I needed a few quiet, reassuring moments last night and found them here.

13.  Pastorale - Rita Honti
Soothing Instrumental to round out the mix.  Hopefully at this point the boys are dreaming sweetly.

There's the Lullaby mix!  Any suggestions for the next edition?  I'd love to hear them.

The Sick Bay

Our house currently resembles an infirmary.  There are blankets and pillows every where.  I spend my days sleeping, watching British dramas on Netflix, and keeping track of how much time is left before I can take more cough medicine.

John is doing a great job taking care of us all.

Who's ready for spring?!  Me...that's who.

It's This Girl's Birthday Today!

This wonderful sister and aunt is having a birthday today!  We got to celebrate with her yesterday.  She was really hoping to have a snow day today (teachers like them too!) since that's what has happened the last two years but no such luck this time around.

Nonetheless, we wish you a very Happy Birthday Aunt Kelly and blessings in this new year of life!

Super Bowl 2015.  For the sake of full disclosure...this picture was taken the day after the Super Bowl.  We were at someone else's house for the actual festivities so we staged this picture at dinner time tonight.

See here for the back story.  Or you can just peruse these pictures from the past and you'll get the idea.
