My Uncle

My uncle Gary passed away this morning around 7:15 mountain time. He was surrounded by his family.

From an email from my aunt....(I added the description of names so you could know who was who).

"All that we long to become will find fulfillment in our first look at Jesus. . . ."

Our husband, father, and friend went home today to get his reward. He is suffering no longer, and is moving quickly through the VIP line in heaven, getting his "high-fives".

Thank you for your love, prayers and support through this time.

Marilynn (my aunt)
John and Ruby (Gary's parents)
Matt and Aimee, Karlee, Liz (my cousin, his wife, their daughters)
Ben and Brit (my cousin and his fiance)
Alex (my cousin)

It is with sadness that Northwest Nazarene University announces the death of Vice President for University Advancement Gary Skaggs, 58. Mr. Skaggs died at a Boise medical center where he had been hospitalized since February 18, 2008. He was diagnosed with brain tumors in early January. Time and location for a memorial service are still being determined.
President Richard Hagood commented, "Today Northwest Nazarene University lost a most remarkable administrator and friend in the passing of Gary Skaggs. His service to his alma mater in fund raising and building relationships is unprecedented in terms of dollars generated and friendships established. However, what we will all mourn is the absence of his genuine care and compassion for each of us on campus and the thousands of friends he made during his too-short life."
Skaggs came to the university in 1992, initially serving as the Director of Planned Giving. In the six years that Skaggs served in that role, NNU’s scholarship endowment grew from $1 million to $10 million with similar growth in irrevocable deferred gifts under management. In 1998, Skaggs was named Vice President for University Advancement and also served as Executive Director for the Northwest Nazarene University Foundation, Inc. at the time of his death. Presently, the endowment fund exceeds $22 million with similar funds coming to the university in annuities and trusts.
Skaggs received his bachelor's degree from Northwest Nazarene University in 1972. For twenty years following, Skaggs was a broker/partner in Skaggs Real Estate in Reno, Nevada, and also served as a New York Life agent for five years specializing in estate planning.
Skaggs was a member of Nampa’s First Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his wife Marilynn (Ratzloff) and three children: son Matt and his wife Aimee and their two daughters (Alexandria, Va.); son Ben and fiancé Britney (Nampa, Idaho); son Alex (Nampa, Idaho); and, his parents John and Ruby Skaggs (Reno, Nevada).
