Life in the Country - Chicken Run

I'm sitting in a small office in a small town in Kansas, waiting for some lovely Amish girls to finish processing our chickens.

We started with 14 Cornish chicks and ended up with 10 chickens for the freezer.  A few succumbed to illness and one lost a battle with a local wild hawk (but he was tasty in our enchiladas).

We've been working on improvements to our coop over the last few weeks so our chicken adventure can continue with minimal harm to the chickens that remain.

Learning to Roost
That's better!
The egg layers are still in a crate but they've moved out to the barn instead of living in our dining room.

These will grow much slower but in a few months we'll have lots of yummy eggs.
